Klavium debut EP review

Image result for klavium         Today I gave the two man thrash metal band from Trinidad, Klavium a listen. Their EP was oozing with potential and talent. I think most metal heads will like the music but especially those who are into the classic thrash metal vibe of the late eighties. Klavium is definitely staying true to the thrash metal roots as the entire EP is almost a salute to bands like Slayer and Anthrax with their quick violent loops and tuned down guitars.

The first song I listened to was called "Cursed Within" the intro to this song is nothing short of perfection and reminded me of the classic intros from the album "Reign in blood" by slayer. It's fast and its angry and it gets the blood pumping in a matter of seconds. About five seconds into the song the vocals start with an ear piercing pig shriek that is equally disturbing and wonderful. From there on in the song seems to develop more of a black metal vocal style while keeping the musical elements invested in the thrash style. The vocals are constantly shrieking throughout the entire song, and only stop for a matter of seconds at a time so that the drums and guitar can have their moment in the spot light. Of course there was the bone chilling breakdown that happens at the end of the song which I thought was very cool, most bands place the breakdown a little after halfway through the song Klavium on the other hand places their breakdown for the last twenty seconds of the song as a final send off.

After that the next song we are met with is "Bleed Your Eyes" and honestly the name says it all, this song is so aggresive I wouldn't be surprised if you did in fact start bleeding out your eyes. The intro again was very thrash metal and this song I would liken more to Anthrax, then Slayer in style. Again though Klavium isn't simply standing on the shoulders of these bands but taking what they've done and mutating it into a fresh new style that we haven't heard yet. "Bleed Your Eyes" involved more instrumental parts which I liked since "Cursed Within" relied heavily on vocals, this song relies more on the extremely talented musicians and their skill set. Although the vocals are still present and extremely powerful its easier to focus on the musical elements in this song.

After that I listened to "Imbalance Of The Cosmos" which if I might add is a really cool name for a song. I dont know what the songs actual meaning is but what I can tell you is it is crafted with the most rage we've heard yet on the EP so whatever Klavium is singing about their not happy about it. This song again has the quick and violent loops that keep your head banging and the hair on your arms standing up and they've still got the slaughter house shrieks going giving the track an extra shot of evil that really helps differentiate from the other bands in the genre. The song all together is very well put together and thought out and the structure is amazingly well orchestrated. The vocals and instruments tango around each other as they seem to switch between one another simultaneously.

The last song on their EP is "Feeling Of Life" this has by far the longest musical intro before the vocals come in and it helps set the mood for the song. The loops aren't quite as quick but the quick hits and guitar plucks make sure that song doesn't loose its speed as it continues to barrel along. This song also has the second and final breakdown on the EP. However its not your typical breakdown, the vocals are still present and theres never actually a lull in the music. Klavium maintains its speed through the breakdown giving it a very cool and peculiar vibe, theres really no way of explaining it unless you listen to the song yourself.

Klavium was a great modern day thrash metal band with definite black metal elements, I would highly recommend them to any Slayer or thrash metal fan for that matter who's looking for their next band to follow. It's insane to think only two people are playing during this EP as it sounds so whole and doesn't lack any elements to it. Give them a listen!
